5 Tips for Transitioning from Summer to Fall Decor
Happy Fall Ya’ll! If you haven’t already begun making the transition, Fall is most certainly among us and if you're like me, it’s time to start thinking about Fall home decor. It can be challenging to switch from Summer to Fall, as we long for those warm days of Summer past, yet even moreso the weeks of 65-75 degree temperatures have us feeling Fall weather creeping in, so here are 5 easy tips to help make your home decor transition super easy!
One: Mix Summer and Fall colors together
One of our favorite ways to start incorporating fall colors is to mix them in with summer colors. When you have just fall colors, they really stand out as fall colors. But when you mix them in with summer colors, it gently hints at sweaters and colder weather instead of throwing a Pumpkin Spice Latte at your head. This is a wonderful mix of summer and fall colors arranged in a stubby milk can with a mix of zinnias, wisteria, and sunflowers in a mix of summer and fall colors. Speaking of sunflowers…
Two: Sunflowers - the patron flower of both Summer and Fall
You can’t go wrong with using sunflowers in your summer-to-fall decor since it is a staple in decor for both seasons. These sunflowers were on their last hurrah for the year, so used what you have left in your arrangement. Sprinkle those sunflowers in your summer-to-fall decor like fairy dust with confidence.
Three: Avoid overuse of decor that screams “Fall!”
What I mean by this is avoid decor that is mostly attached to fall, like pumpkins, fallen leaves, etc. If you use them, use them sparingly and mix them in with summer elements. And don’t even think about turkeys or cornucopias yet! Here is a demonstration of this tip by not having any of the aforementioned items.
Four: Use natural elements that are in-season in your area now
One of the things we love about farmhouse decor is that it incorporates a lot of natural elements. Consider using natural elements that are grown locally. Using natural elements that are either naturally occurring or typically grown by farmers or in gardens in your area adds a personal touch to your decor. Think about what flowers are easy to grow in your area, along with sprinkling in some gourds here and there throughout the room. There’s also apples this time of year, too.
Five: Create a back-to-school vignette
While back-to-school happens late summer, why not do a vignette or two with that theme? All you need are some school supplies that don’t even need to be vintage… just mix them in with vintage finds and viola! A back-to-school vignette that’ll make parents smile and kids shudder.
